Pure formulas. Clear purpose.
At OLIA SKIN, we believe skincare should be easier to understand.
That means being thoughtful about what goes into our formulas, how products are made, and what we say about them.
Some of our formulas are certified to the COSMOS standard by ECOCERT Greenlife. Where certification applies, it provides an independently verified framework covering ingredients, formulation, manufacturing, packaging, environmental practices, and product communication.
OUR FORMULATION POINT OF VIEW
Natural origin. Clear purpose.
We look for ingredients with a reason to be there.
Our approach focuses on purposeful ingredients, thoughtful formulation, responsible sourcing, and clear communication. For selected products, COSMOS certification provides an additional layer of independent verification.
The COSMOS standard covers the journey of a certified cosmetic—from ingredient origin and processing through composition, manufacturing, packaging, environmental management, labelling, and inspection.
WHAT COSMOS CERTIFICATION MEANS
COSMOS is an international standard for organic and natural cosmetics. It was developed by leading European organisations and is managed by the independent, international COSMOS-standard AISBL.
For certified products, the standard considers:
Responsible ingredients
COSMOS sets requirements around ingredient origin, processing, and permitted raw materials.
Thoughtful production
Manufacturing and processing must meet defined requirements designed to protect human health and the environment.
Responsible resource use
The standard promotes responsible use of natural resources and respect for biodiversity.
Considered packaging
Packaging requirements form part of the standard, including environmental considerations.
Clear communication
COSMOS includes requirements for product labelling and marketing communication intended to provide consumers with clear information and avoid misleading claims.
COSMOS NATURAL OR COSMOS ORGANIC?
Not every certified product carries the same COSMOS designation.
COSMOS NATURAL
A product can carry the COSMOS NATURAL signature when it complies with the COSMOS standard but does not meet the minimum organic-content requirements for COSMOS ORGANIC certification.
COSMOS ORGANIC
A product can carry the COSMOS ORGANIC signature when it meets the standard's requirements, including the applicable minimum organic-content requirements.
This distinction matters because natural origin and organic certification are not the same thing.
WHAT DOES “NATURAL ORIGIN” MEAN?
COSMOS has defined requirements for ingredient origin and processing. The standard covers different ingredient categories, including water, minerals, physically processed agro-ingredients, chemically processed agro-ingredients, and other ingredients.
ECOCERT states that, on average, products it certifies under this framework contain 99% ingredients of natural origin, while allowing a restricted list of approved ingredients, including certain preservatives, in permitted quantities.
Natural origin does not automatically mean organic. That's why we distinguish the two clearly.
THE ORGANIC STANDARD
For a product to qualify for COSMOS ORGANIC, ECOCERT states that:
- At least 95% of the plants it contains must be organic.
- At least 20% of the total formula must consist of organic ingredients.
- For rinse-off products, the minimum organic percentage of the total formula is 10%.
Water and minerals are not considered organic because they are not agricultural ingredients, which is important when interpreting the organic percentage of a finished cosmetic.
BEYOND THE FORMULA
Certification looks at more than ingredients.
COSMOS certification is not simply an ingredient checklist.
The standard covers areas including:
- Ingredient sourcing & processing Requirements apply to the origin and processing of ingredients.
- Product composition Organic content is calculated according to defined COSMOS rules.
- Manufacturing & packaging Processes must meet requirements for cleanliness, hygiene, traceability, and environmental considerations.
- Environmental management The standard addresses environmental practices and waste management.
- Labelling & communication Claims and product communication must meet defined requirements.
- Inspection & certification Certification involves assessment by an authorised Certification Body.
INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED
A standard is only meaningful when someone checks it.
COSMOS certification is carried out through authorised Certification Bodies.
The certification process includes documentary assessment and on-site inspection, covering the relevant ingredients, products, and manufacturing processes. COSMOS also requires authorised Certification Bodies to meet defined accreditation requirements.
For OLIA SKIN, this means that when you see a COSMOS certification claim on an applicable product, it refers to a defined certification framework rather than simply a brand-created standard.
OUR COMMITMENT TO CLARITY
No blanket claims. No unnecessary noise.
We don't believe every formula needs the same label.
Some OLIA SKIN formulas are COSMOS certified, while others may not carry that certification. We identify certification at the product level so you can understand exactly what applies to the formula you're considering.
Our goal is simple:
- Clear formulas.
- Purposeful ingredients.
- Responsible choices.
- Straightforward information.
RESPONSIBLE BY DESIGN
Our standards extend beyond what goes into a formula.
We consider:
Naturally derived ingredients
Where appropriate, we prioritize ingredients selected for their function and formulation purpose.
Responsible production
We consider the environmental and practical realities of how products are made.
Recyclable packaging
We work toward packaging choices that support more responsible disposal and material use.
Clear information
We aim to communicate ingredients, certifications, and product benefits without unnecessary promises.
For COSMOS-certified formulas, these considerations are evaluated within the requirements of the COSMOS standard.
THE OLIA STANDARD
Pure formulas. Clear purpose.
We don't want skincare to feel complicated.
We want you to know what you're using, why it's there, and what standards apply.
That's what our formulation point of view is about.
